Tropical GuestHouse, Kuala Lumpur ($23 - $26)

Malaysia Budget Hotels - Tropical GuestHouse (website: http://www.tropicalguesthousekl.com/)

This place is an adorable haven in the midst of a big city. My review here is based on the presidential suite - worth the extra money from what I can see.
Bamboo on the ceiling, scribbled messages of love and positivity on the concrete walls, flowers all over the entrance hallway, just so cute. The owner, Jennifer is a lovely lady who will help with anything you need.
Recommended. There were one or two bugs in the room, but having just arrived from Borneo nothing that would have bothered us.
P.S. Make sure you visit Jalan Alor for food, the Sky Bar at the Traders Hotel for drinks, Changkat Bukit Bintang for dancing and Petaling Street for Shopping!

Step Inn Guest House, Kuala Lumpur ($18 - $49)

The area surrounding Step Inn guest house doesn't look friendly at 4:30 AM but when you enter that place you can feel like at home. The staff and owners are doing great job to make everyone happy what may sound impossible but they are really supportive and happy what they do. Also the place had a lot of common space for social activities and we had a pleasure to meet many interesting people there and spend time together.

Step Inn is located not directly at busy Jalan Pudu street so it's quiet but close to public transport (subway and Puduraya bus terminal) and Chinatown. The room was basic but not too small with double bed and attached private bathroom. There was a window but very close to a wall from next house so minimal light was coming in. Simple breakfast was included too. The room equipment was rather basic but adequate to the price.

Overall the hostel has great atmosphere, good location and average equipment what was covering my needs in 100%

Matahari Lodge, Kuala Lumpur ($24 - $56)

58-1, Jalan Hang Kasturi | Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur 50050, Malaysia

Matahari Lodge has everything a budget traveler is looking for. It's in a great location right next to Chinatown and just a hop away from the LRT and Kommuter. The property is spotless with comfortable and quiet rooms. The common areas are spacious and comfortable. Finally, the service here is better than most mid range to high end hotels. The staff is so friendly and knowledgable.

To make things clear: this is a backpacker/guesthouse and not a typical hotel.
That said it is fantastic!

Service: the staff is extremely efficient, adorable ( especially with kids), and relax.

Location: very close to the monorail and next to a shopping mall (great for food and shopping), pretty central, with a few restaurants on the street.

Rooms: rather small but the bed is a decent queensize, the aircon very silent, the bedsheet crisp and fresh and the bathroom have an amazing powerful shower ( after 2 months in India... you do not take things like that for granted!). There are hooks everywhere in the room to hang things that is very useful for clothes/towels/etc..

The lounge and veranda is nicely decorated with wifi everywhere.

Breakfast: nice with a Malaysian touch everyday. Excellent roti.
